Weekly Round Up – April 26th 2009
- An open letter to the Pixies, “Pixies – Why are you giving your deluxe box set its own name? We all thought it was going to be a new album. We’re not even sure what to do with a Blu-Ray of your catalog, but we’ll probably buy it anyway. Regards – CMI”
- If the space-time-continum is like Back to the Future says it is, somewhere in a parallel time stream, a 13 year old Devon is flipping out with all this Jane’s Addiction news. Side note: anybody remember when Perry Farrell was a little more fierce and a little less like an extra from “The Birdcage”?
- Chunklet gives their take on Billy Corgan and Record Store Day. If we at CMI didn’t live all over the Eastern US, we’d totally go down to Atlanta for Whirlyball vs. Team Chunklet
- New Deerhunter “virtual” 7″
- Titus Andronicus gets some Pitchfork A.D.D. love.
- Ian MacKaye is talking about a Nina Simone – seriously.
- I am perfectly willing to accept that my contention that Radiohead hasn’t really delivered since the “Bends” puts me in the musical minority. Despite my jadedness, I still think that Radiohed and Philosophy is a bit overkill. Sartre would be doing 200 rpm six-feet-under, but he’s probably indifferent.
- Kevin Barnes, from Of Montreal, leaves his clothes on and covers the Beatles; which isn’t as cool as the S.M. cover of Funk 49 from a couple weeks back.
- King Khan is 100x cooler than any of use can hope to be, and his new video shows us why. P.S. he looks way more rad in those glasses than Kanye.
- Rember when Carson Daly would paint his nails and chat the the Backstreet Boys over a freshly gentrified and safe for tourists Time’s Square? Well, it looks like Carson decided to get harsh – last Wednesday Crystal Antlers played his show. We can’t find the video anywhere – hook us up!
Crystal Antlers – “Andrew” from Touch and Go/Quarterstick on Vimeo. - Bio-Medical Engineer –> Mash-up Master –> Songwriter(?). Girl Talk talks about next steps over at Billboard.
- Entertainment Weekly gets the low down on Vampire Weekend’s new record. How surreal was that to type?
- Ian “Skinny Legs” Svenonius talks about his new band Chain and the Gang with the Village Voice.
