Other Lives: Other Lives
It’s unhip these days to write a sad melody, especially if you sound anything like Radiohead. Except if you’re Radiohead.
Other Lives’ 2009 self titled debut shrugs the at-a-glance comparison with ease and sways through 11 tracks of melancholly with refreshing variety to become something much more than a rehash. Their song structure is theatrical much of the time, and always inventive. It seems like noone ever told them they could use simple 3 or 4 chord progressions in repetition. Their formulas are far more complex, as if great care was taken to make sure each contains its own proof.
