Frodus Reunite

Frodus

The nation’s capital has long been a hotbed for opinionated punk, with Dischord doing most of the heavy lifting on that front. But there are plenty of examples outside of the Dischord universe, and one such band that is often over looked in the annals of D.C. political post-punk is Frodus. They existed all too briefly from 1993 – 1999, releasing one of my favorite albums ever, And We Washed Our Weapons In the Sea,  in the process.

Recently rumors surfaced of them reuniting and playing shows in celebration of the rerelease of their Conglomerate International LP. And it’s true! Last night the band played a free show in VA, to an audience that RSVP’d on their Facebook page. And they’ve got two more coming up at SXSW on the 21st and 22nd.

So if you are at SXSW go see Frodus because:

1. Their name comes from a man-eating plant from space in an episode of the Monkees

2. They slay

3. In an era of “Change We Can Believe In,” it’s important to remain political and cynical regarding things other than AIG scandals and the economic stimulus package.
