The Lemonheads – Video Session

dando

A former co-worker of mine once said of Evan Dando, “I don’t like his music, but I bet he has a great record collection.” This opinion seems to mirror the feelings of many who were initally turned off by Dando’s pin-up good looks and saccarine vocals. In the post-grunge era of the early 90’s, the Lemonheads’ bubblegum fuzz must have seemed like a record exec’s evil ploy. Luckily, with the benefit of hindsight, the Lemonheads are now seeing a much deserved critical revival.

Dando & co. recently took a break from recording their new album (!) to shoot a video session for Laundro Matinee. In the video below, part 3 of 3, the band stumble through an extended hybrid of T. Rex’s “Bang A Gong” with their own “Style” (from Come On Feel the Lemonheads) before launching into “Confetti” (from It’s A Shame About Ray). They finish things off by fading out with a cover of the Velvet Underground’s “Sunday Morning.”

Check out the video below, download the studio version of “Confetti,” and head over the Laundro Matinee to watch the rest of the session.

Once I saw that shirt (“Steve McQueen is Hip Hop”) at his show, it really cemented Evan Dando into my pantheon of heroes. Well, that and his imperfectly perfect high notes. He deserves the cred for sure.
